This week’s Spotlight was recommended to us by a fan of The BOB, and a big fan of this week’s Thirsty Thursday location, Laurelwood Pub. So, shout out to you, Taya for the recommendation.
I don’t remember the last time I was at Laurelwood Pub…it’s been a minute for sure. When I contacted them, they were more than eager to have us come down and see how they’ve adapted to the whole outdoor seating thing.
I got there right around 5:45pm and Kaylor pulled in right after. We walked into the pub and were immediately greeted by the bar staff. We ordered our beers and traversed upstairs where it was respectfully busy.
Kaylor and I got upstairs and immediately found ourselves a spot in the corner. It was well covered and out of the elements, which was good news, because the heater wasn’t working properly so the covering really helped us keep warm.
Knopp arrived shortly after us and we began to chat about all things BOB and Beer.
Both Knopp and I started off with the crushable, KIDS THESE DAZE HAZY IPA – Alcohol Content: 6.5% · IBUs: 40. A great tasting beer with a not too bitter and almost has a pineapple flavor to it.
Kaylor began his night with the PORTLAND PALE PROJECT #57: OATIE MCOATFACE. A Pale ale with rolled oats. Hopped with Mosaic and Wai Iti hops. Alcohol Content: 5.4% · IBUs: 33
We toasted as always to Life and Health, and started talking about the upcoming ALL NEW BOB Happy Hour February 4th. We marveled at how far we have come since our first Happy Hour and what our impact has been as we try to grow our community.
We each finished our first beer and headed down to check out what our next libation was going to be.
As many of you know, (or don’t) Red’s are my favorite type of craft beer, and the FREE RANGE RED ALE has been one of my favorites since living in the Pacific Northwest. I haven’t seen it in the stores lately, so having it from the tap was like heaven to my taste buds. One of Laurelwood’s longest year round brew it is a classic recipe that helps show off our house yeast. Alcohol Content: 5.9% · IBUs: 50.
Kaylor went with the RANDO 32 – SOUP FOR MY FAMILY – HAZY IPA. He said it was delicious and actually bought a crowler of it before we left. This iteration is a Hazy IPA loaded with Azacca, Ekuanot, Mosaic and Strata hops. Honey malt, Flaked Oats and Flaked Rye provide the fluffy body that balance the heavy hop load. Alcohol Content: 7.7% · IBUs: 46
The only thing that made the evening better was when one of the staff members, cleaned us a spot under one of the heated canopies just for us. We really appreciated them thinking of us.
I wasn’t able to eat any of the food since I had some dental work done and my mouth felt like I just went 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. Other than that the experience was great. Go visit Laurelwood today, and as always, tell them the BOB sent you.
