Now that the Holidays are over and the new year is in full swing, it was time to get back to what Thirsty Thursday is all about, spending time with friends, drinking local beer, eating local food all while solving the world’s problems. What better place to start the year off than with a Vancouver Beer institution, Loowit Brewing.
I arrived just before 6pm and the place was hopping. I was lucky enough that Devon had just cleaned a table off and was ready for me to for me to pounce. I quickly ordered the Truman’s Goddamn Strong Ale – 2018 (10% ABV 46 IBU) and sat my ass down.
Kaylor and Knopp got there shortly after I plopped down at the table. Kaylor was carrying the Rogue – Players Handbook IPA (6.4% ABV 63 IBU), while Knopp rocked the Siouxon Kölsch (4.9% ABV 20 IBU). We toasted to our health and drank the delicious libations.
The greatest thing I noticed from the start was how warm the outdoor seating was. It seemed like there was a heater every 5 or 6 feet, to ensure the patrons were not too uncomfortable from the damp weather. Even though I grew up in Wisconsin and have that Badger blood in me, as I get older my cold tolerance has dropped dramatically, so it was great to drink under the warm conditions.
After our first beers, we decided to head inside to order more drinks, as well as order some grub. Kaylor ordered a beautiful looking burger, but I went all in with the Currywurst. Perfectly seasoned sausage, paired with fresh French Fries and topped with homemade curry ketchup. It was bomb; I totally recommended you try it immediately.
After we ate, we had some visitors join us. Caitlin Wilson and Mariah of In Light Hyperbarics stopped by to talk about the newest podcast of the TH3 Entertainment family, Into the Light with Crazy Cait. We start recording this month, and they wanted to talk about scheduling and promotion. They also grabbed a couple of cans of Sunward Hefeweizen (4.7% ABV 16 IBU) to go.
Closing time came too fast, and it was only 8 o’clock, so Kaylor, Caitlin and Mariah and I decided to continue our conversation at Brickhouse Tavern, we had one more drink and said goodnight.
I can’t stress how much fun I had at Loowit Brewing last night for Thirsty Thursday. The biggest surprise was the food menu. I’m not lying when I say they have food that you will dream about. Go show Devon, Tom and the crew some love and get your asses down there. And please do yourself a favor and try the Currywurst it’s….#LEGIT.
