Welcome to the latest installment of Thirsty Thursday with The BOB!
With social distancing being part of the “new normal”, it’s easy for businesses and their employees to fall victim to SDDD (Social Distanced Disconnection Disorder.) If you’ve never heard of SDDD, that’s ok because I just made it up. Basically, it’s how I try to explain how we behave with one another now that Social Distancing is a current fixture of our lives. A good example of SDDD is how I feel when I meet someone new and I don’t know whether or not to shake that person’s hand, give them a fist or elbow bump, high five, or just nod and smile. The unfair thing about SDDD, is that it might make us look or feel as if we’re being rude or standoffish, when in reality, we’re just trying to figure it out like everyone else.
SDDD is brutal, and that must be double for those who work or navigate in the service industry. Keeping all of that in mind, it’s refreshing to walk into a Brewery or Tap House that keeps SDDD in check. I’ve been lucky enough to have great experiences lately, like last week’s Thirsty Thursday at Victor 23 Craft Brewery.
We had another great experience at this week’s Highlight, Trusty Brewing Company, located in downtown Vancouver.
Both Jonathan and Ben had never been to Trusty before walking in there this week, and we were both pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere at Trusty was definitely alive with its own unique Brewery feel, and we were immediately greeted by the Beertender, who was helpful our entire visit.
Ben started off his night with the Corner Window IPA, while Jonathan got himself a pint of the Trusty Pale. The IPA was a classic style of your traditional Northwest IPA with just a tad more malt hinted on the back end. Pretty sure Kaylor enjoyed his Pale, ‘cause he crushed it and ended buying a six pack before the night was over.
Ben’s second beer was the Shade Seeker Brown, while Kaylor grabbed himself the IPA. As a Brown fan (not Cleveland Browns, but Brown Ales), I was delighted to find that this was a perfect balance of malt and hops, not overly sweet that many Browns can bring.
After that beer, we decided to grab ourselves some grub, so Ben ordered some nacho’s topped with pork brisket, paired with an SR500 Red. They complimented each other wonderfully. All the while Jonathan picked the sliders, which were delicious!
Soon after we ate, Caitlin Marie Wilson of In Light Hyperbarics LLC., our friend and 2 time Business Over Beer Podcast Alum from Episode 37 and The BOB Happy Hour #16, joined us. She ordered the Shade Seeker as we were catching up, and I commented on how ironic it was that she was drinking the Shade Seeker when her episodes were so focused on light and her light therapy.
The night ended with us saying goodbye and pleased to get back some sense of normalcy. If you find yourself in the downtown Vancouver area and looking for a nice place to grab a pint and a bite, check out Trusty Brewing for sure. They have great food, great atmosphere, and great beer! Plus, they are Family Friendly, so bring the entire tribe! #WinVancouver
